Hailie has loved cheering for as long as I’ve known her (before I even knew her actually).  The first time I photographed Hailie was about 5 years ago.  I snapped a few pics of her and Hunter, her younger brother, after a game that he played in and she was on the sidelines cheering.  She loves cheering.  The love is strong with this one (as I type this I’m using my best Star Wars voice… and you can probably be thankful you aren’t here to listen to it.  ha!).

It was fun spending time with Hailie and her mom downtown Champaign recently for her senior session.  We roamed around finding fun pockets of light and colorful  backdrops.

This weekend, Hailie and the rest of my SLP VIP crew are gonna have a little fun.  If you wanna see what I have planned for them on Sunday afternoon, you will want to follow me on Snapchat.  SC: Sweetlemonade4u

Current juniors… If you want to join my VIP Senior crew, apply NOW and we will start photographing you as a junior sometime after the first of the year.  Apply now to get a bonus session at no additional charge.  Learn more and apply to be a part of the 2019 Senior SLP VIP crew

Sydney was my very first applicant for my SLP senior photography VIP program which means we not only spend time together photographing her ‘official’ senior session in Mahomet but several additional styled shoots and other sessions just for fun, have fun quarterly VIP gatherings and even volunteer as a group together in Champaign.    (I’m already accepting applications for 2019 VIP’s, incoming juniors, so if you’re interested you can learn more and apply here.  If you apply by November 1st, you are guaranteed a VIP spot AND get a bonus session this winter.)

I’ve known Sydney’s family for many years.  Both of her parents are kind, wonderful, friendly people so Sydney’s positive and cheery disposition comes naturally.  Her beauty goes far beyond the surface and that’s what makes it so fun to spend time with her.  I’ve watched her bring people into conversations that may have felt like they were on the outside.  I feel like she reads people well and does what she can to make them feel welcome and included.  She’s got a heart of gold and I love being able to spend time with her.

In addition to taking pics of her, we also did some family pics (I’m only sharing one of her and her younger (and 6’4″ or something) ‘baby’ brother because the rest are gonna be a surprise for their extended family.  I made a joke at the time, ‘now I want you two to hold hands and pretend like you love each other’.  Sydney’s response was, “I don’t know if I am his but he is my best friend,” and she quickly grabbed his hand showing her admiration and affection for her brother.  Ahhh as a mama to three boys myself, none of which would ever be heard saying such a statement, it made my heart so happy to hear she felt that way.  Not only FELT it but EXPRESSED it and SHOWED it.  I pray my boys will one day feel the same towards each other.

Sydney, can’t wait for the pumpkin carving and all the other fun we have in store this fall as a team.  Oh, and if you haven’t followed me yet on Snapchat, go ahead and find me…. sweetlemonade4u and you can see some behind the scenes from senior sessions (when I remember) and other stuff both business and personal.

I was approached last month by Mary and she wanted to get pictures of her kids taken for her husband, who is a Champaign cop, as a surprise. As a police officer she brought some handmade signs and Corey’s uniform for the kids to fight over choose which parts they each wanted to wear. 🙂

It was such a fun session and now that Father’s Day has passed, I’m excited to share them with you.

Thanks Corey for giving selflessly in your position as a policeman and Mary, thank you for sharing him with the community. Having great officers like Corey in uniform helps me sleep a little better at night.

Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Traveling Wall that Heals

The Wall that Heals is a replica half the size of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial that is located in Washington D.C.  This traveling wall is located at Lake of the Woods Peninsula right off Lake of the Woods Road in Mahomet and will be open 24/7 until 3 pm Sunday, June 26th.   Volunteers spent an afternoon earlier this week displaying 1,200 flags along both sides of the road on Prairieview, Tin Cup, and Lake of the Woods Road.  It was such a beautiful sight.  Gave me goosebumps.

My dad fought in Vietnam.  Although his plane, he affectionately named the Judy K (my mom’s name), was shot down once he made it back safely to U.S. soil once the war was over.  So walking by the 250 foot wall with 52,253 names, I was so very thankful my dad’s name was not one of them

37 residents of Champaign County were not so fortunate.  A photo and information about each soldier are displayed on a monitor that remind you that those 52,253 names aren’t ‘just’ names. Each of those names were someone’s spouse, father, daughter, or friend.  Each of those names represent someone who fought for you, me and for every person living in the US enjoying our freedoms today and for generations to come.

I encourage you to attend the candlelight vigil tomorrow, Saturday, June 25th at 9 pm to honor the 37 Champaign County soldiers who lost their life in the Vietnam War.

While you are there, you are encouraged to pick up a flag to remember a soldier.  There were 1,600 Vietnam soldiers who are classified as missing in action.  1,600 families who probably held out hope for so long, praying that their son or daughter would be home soon… and they never did.

And then there are those who survived.  The Veterans, like my dad, who I considered fortunate. They are yet many come back from war completely changed and often with post traumatic stress disorder.  Did you know that 22 Veteran’s will commit suicide today?  22 men and women who fought to protect each and every one of us will commit suicide because of what transpired in war. 22 a day!  And then I saw this photo. If the statistic I just shared isn’t sobering enough, look at the photo below.

Bullet Vietnam vet was saving for himself suicide PTSD

Let it soak in.  I couldn’t imagine what this gentleman was struggling with every day for 27 years. Seeing that bullet and reading his words how he found closure with the past, I let out a sigh of relief. I can only imagine how he felt being set free.  I prayed for Sargent Martinez right then.  And I prayed for all our veterans.   If you’d like to learn more about two programs who are working to raise suicide awareness among veterans and help veterans with PTSD you can read about them here 22 Kill and Honor Courage Commitment

Here are a few more pictures I took this morning. Please make time to go.  Please take your kids with you.  The next generation must not forget.  Teach them to learn, understand and appreciate the sacrifices made.

I absolutely love it when I can capture the real genuine smiles and laughs during a session. There is even greater satisfaction when I can get a young man to relax and let their real personality shine. Smiles are so contagious so I can’t help but smile looking at these. Try not smiling. I dare ya! 🙂

Sweetly,

Heather

Graduation is almost upon us.  Kids at our local high school graduate this Sunday so thought I’d offer a limited number of mini sessions so you can remember this special time in their lives.  Donning a cap & gown signifies the end of their high school career and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.  This time of their lives is filled with such emotion, for the seniors themselves and their mamas & papas.  I’m tearing up watching “my” Sweet Lemonade Photography seniors prepare to go off to college, the military and start careers.  I can’t imagine how I’m gonna feel when my own children graduate.  I have 4 more years to prepare for this with my oldest.  Yikes…. only 4 more years!

The $125 fee includes the 15 minute session, (1) 8×10, (2) 5×7’s and (15) wallets (all prints are of same pose).   $50 non-refundable retainer required to schedule your session.

If you’d like to schedule a cap and gown mini session with Sweet Lemonade Photography, you can send me a message .  These are only available from Friday, May 20th- Friday, May 27th.

XOXOXO,

Heather

I attended the 4th grade junior olympics because of a special boy on the pink team, my son! It was a fun morning watching him and his classmate race.  Below are just a few of the 200 or so pics I took.  You can view, share and download all the watermarked images here at no charge. You also have the ability to purchase non-watermarked images and they will be shipped directly to your home.2016-05-12_0002.jpg

Communities around the United States organize events to raise money for the American Cancer Society, including Relay for Life events.  Mahomet has hosted this event for many years, rain or shine. There would not have been a Relay for Life in Mahomet this year but a few months ago Amy Craig and Jessie DeHaan stepped up and took charge to create an incredible evening with just 3 short months to plan.  With the amazing community support there was a wide variety of prizes for silent auctions, food donated to sell, and time given to get involved in a variety of other ways made this event such a success.

The high school kids brought a lot of energy and excitement to the event, which included a lip syncing battle.   Fundraising totals are being calculated but early estimates are that this year’s event will bring in a total of over $30,000 to donate to the American Cancer Society.

There were many touching moments, including the survivor lap to begin the event.  And that’s when it hit me.  I too, can proudly wear THE purple shirt.   I am a 17 year cancer survivor!

It was such a honor to celebrate the cancer survivors that were present, from one gentlemen who got the best news the DAY BEFORE the event to the survivors who have been cancer free for many years.

Below are some pics that capture only a portion of the fun had Saturday evening at the Mahomet-Seymour High School track.  If you want to see them all, be sure to check out the full gallery.  All the images can be downloaded at no charge, compliments of Sweet Lemonade Photography.  🙂
